Where can I get a current listing of Comdex Ratings for the various companies in the long-term care market? Is there a service provider that updates this for a fee?
I am most interested in the ratings for:
Mass Mutual
MetLife
John Hancock
Allianz
Unum-Provicent
Thanks,
Chip

COMDEX ratings are not typically available to the general public. If you find, so called, COMDEX ratings on the internet they will be incomplete and/or out of date. The software distributed by a software firm named VitalSigns who distribute only to insurance companies, brokers and agent. Needless to say, if you are working with an agent or broker they should provide the current COMDEX as part of their service.
Below are the COMDEX ratings for the companies you asked about.
Mass Mutual.............................................99
MetLife.....................................................89
John Hancock...........................................99
Allianz......................................................96
Unum-Provident.......................................88
Note: Consider other hybrid plans that offer full return of premium from the first day of issue through the end. I can offer those plans, if need be.
Also, keep in mind that this is but one of many variables one should consider when determining the best policy to buy. Even more important, one should look at options to protect ones assets and family in the event of long term care (LTC) stay using other strategies other than long term care insurance.
One also, must consider state specific laws before choosing a plan of action. For instance, Massachusetts law states that ones home can not have a lien place on it by Medicaid (typically resulting from Medicaid paying long term medical costs) and seeking to be reimbursed after the recipients death if they have LTC insurance coverage minimum of $125/day for two years.
For a brief outline of option and the pros & cons associated with each strategy for LTC planning email, call or write: Saint-Laurent Advisors, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 322A, Beverly, MA 01915 <> Tel: (978) 232-9990 <> rstl@verizon.net.
