I'm a 49 year old male that retired from Aflac as a regional sales coordinator at age 46. I have a 6 figure income from my Aflac renewals but I'm thinking of getting back to work selling long term care insurance in Florida.

Aflac doesn't sell long term care insurance anymore so I'm looking to get licensed with other companies. Any tips on what to look for or who to get licensed with would be appreciated.

When I started with Aflac over 20 years ago, they had direct products like medicare supplements and long term care. I specialized in those areas and led the company in recruiting agents for, and in selling those products myself. So I know the senior market pretty well.

Ricker,
Well, there is life after AFLAC.

If you'd like to go the independent route, you'll have to be affiliated with a good General Agency, preferably one who specializes in LTCi. That agency will also represent the top life, DI, Medicare Sup and Annuity carriers as well. You'll be able to represent a number of different carriers.

There are a lot of new LTC products on the market(hybrid & combination products) that you'll need to get up to speed on. You'll also need to get Partnership certified.

You can find a GA by going to this website and following the links to "Producer" and then "Find a General Agency"

www.AALTCI.org

With the exception of Medicare Sups, The "Senior Market" has really become a misnomer. Your target market will no longer concentrate on those 65 & up. It will now be 50 and up.

It a good market and you'll most likely do very well.

Good luck,
Arthur

You'll need to consider whether you can generate your own leads, or if you should consider going with someone who provides leads, and may or may not want you to be captive.

Else, having a variety of LTC carriers and ancillary products available to choose from will allow you to better solve underwriting and feature/function issues to be able to help more clients. Med Sups, LTC, annuities, MAPD, and life products give you a well rounded portfolio.
