I am looking at JH group policy to possibly purchase. I have problem estimating how much I need to get for what they cover for homecare.
Their outline states "professional homecare agency" and when I called to clarify the term, the customer service rep said "licensed" and "medicare certified" but could not produce average cost of care nor agencies on their list. I searched internet, but still not clear about "certification" and "license" -huge mystery...it looks like range is $18-$60/hour depending who and where.
Can someone give me some insight on this? where to look, how to ask, would be also great.
OR...Should I not consider the policy with the definition that is not clear if homecare is important?
Thanks!

You should see the language in the policy. A typical JH plan will read something like the following:
HHC will cover medical and non-medical professional and personal care services provided in your home to assist with the activities of daily living or give assistance due to cognitive impairment......
This means people anywhere from $15/hour to babysit you ....to licensed professionals at $50/hr+ depending on skill sets. Obviously a $100/day plan will give you more hours for a babysiter than a skilled physical therapist.....but you generally don;t have $50/hour people in your home all day long. If you want a RN living in your home 24 hours a day, you had better buy a large plan with a huge HHC content. Consider a plan that offers 300% for professional HHC services....and don;t get stuck with a group plan only offering 50%
When you buy a plan, you will only be reimbursed up to the max allowed., Many group plans cut the HHC benefit in half from the facility benefit. Also, suggest you go with monthly benefit instead of daily benefit to cover the occasional $50/hour people hanging around.
Keep in mind, most group LTC plans are easy to beat with a private plan...especially if you are very healthy and have a spouse.
Hope this helps. Suggest you talk to a professional who can help you.
