I'm trying to find a ratings list of long-term care providers. Can anyone recommend a place to find this? Got a little from Consumers Report but they only list 3 from 2003.

First of all, Consumer Reports is NOT (in my opinion) a credible resource when it comes to long term care insurance. They do a great job at comparing toasters, but they've been hideously off track on both attempts at evaluating the long term care insurance industry!

The top companies selling individual contracts are:

Genworth
John Hancock
MetLife
Prudential
Allianz

These are all solid companies with good products. You should find an LTC insurance specialist in your area to work with. He or she will be able to compare everything from financial strength ratings, contract features, to prices for you. Work with an agent who represents several carriers, not a "captive" agent who represents only one.

Go to www.aaltci.org or www.ltc-cltc.com to find someone in your area.
Good luck!
